We are pleased to announce that registration for GHDP is officially open!


Q: If a company already has a barcode, does that automatically translate that the company is a GS1 member?

A: Not necessary. There are many standards for barcode. GHDP follows the GS1 standards which is recognised globally. Hence the company needs to register as GS1 member and obtain the barcode (GTIN) from GS1 accordingly.


Q: What is GTIN ?

A: Global Trade Item Numbers (GTIN) are historically more commonly known as APN, EAN, UPC or TUN numbers. GTINs are used to uniquely identify products or services. When identifying products, each packaging level is to be assigned a unique GTIN.


Q: How to register for GS1 membership ?

A: Company will need to submit GS1 Malaysia Membership and License Application Form with the respective payment as detailed in www.gs1my.org to GS1 Malaysia. Serunai Customer Service will be able to assist and provide further detail guidance.


Q: What financial assistance is available ?

A: Company can submit application for SME Corp Business Accelerator Program (BAP), through HDC or Serunai Customer Service. HDC or Serunai Customer Service will be able to assist and provide further detail guidance.


Q: How to apply for GHDP membership ?

Q: What is the minimum period of GHDP membership subscription ?

A: Minimum one year membership subscription. If company intends to apply for SME Corp Business Accelerator Program (BAP), minimum 3 years membership subscription is required in order to be eligible for the grant.


Q: What are the data enrichment services provided to suppliers in GHDP ?

A: Serunai Customer Service will assist with product data entry, perform system validation in GHDP, and publish the product data in GHDP. Also providing product photography service in photo shooting of product images and upload product images to GHDP


Q: Can foreign companies apply for GHDP membership?

Q: Does company need to be JAKIM certified as a prerequisite to GHDP member ?

A: Suppliers must be JAKIM certified if products are to be traded in Malaysia. Foreign companies need to be certified by halal certification body in order to apply for GHDP membership.


Q: What is GDSN ?

A: Global Data Synchronization Network (GDSN) is an interconnected network of interoperable data pools and a global registry known as the GS1 Global Registry, that enables companies around the globe to exchange standardised and synchronised supply chain data with their trading partners using a standardised global product classification.


Q: Does company subscribing to the GHDP membership need to separately subscribe to GDSN ?

A: No, the GHDP membership package comes with GDSN connectivity.


Q: As a retailer/buyer, does a company need to be GS1 member in order to register on GHDP, since there are no products GTIN to publish on GHDP ?

A: Yes. GHDP works based on GS1 standard of Global Location Number (GLN). GLN is the GS1 Identification Key used for any location (physical, operational or legal) that needs to be identified for use in the supply chain. GS1 is the provider of GLN, hence company needs to be a member of GS1 as a prerequisite.


Q: Will the GHDP membership fee remain the same in subsequent years ?

A: No. Serunai Commerce will revise the yearly rates where necessary and notify subscribers 3 months prior to the expiry of term.


Q: Can company that subscribed to GHDP membership cancel the membership prior to expiry of term ?

A: Company that wishes to terminate GHDP membership subscription needs to provide Serunai Commerce 3 months notice of the intention to terminate. Any fees paid by the company to Serunai Commerce, including the Data Pool Registration Fee, the Annual Fee, etc will not be refunded upon termination.


Q: Will GHDP membership auto renew upon expiry of term ?

A: No. Serunai Customer Service will send reminder 3 months prior to expiry to request for company’s intention on membership renewal.


Q: As a supplier on GHDP, do all the products information need to be entered by Serunai Commerce to GHDP on supplier’s behalf ?

A: It is a service which Serunai Customer Service is providing to uphold the quality of products data in GHDP.
